Case Study: Mr & Mrs T. of Hathern

Job Description:

The client contacted Powerpac in July 2013 looking for an battery backup system so they would not be left in the dark if the mains power supply was cut. We proposed the PowerRouter from Nedap Energy Systems. This system provides an average of 70% of your power, but can also function as a wholly independent power station.

After carrying out a full survey, we proposed they install a Nedap battery back & 3,924kWp PV system using 12 x SunPower SPR-E20-327 327W panels. We estimated that the system would produce 2866kWh per year, and reduce power consumption by 70% because of the 380Ah battery storage system. Mr Toon, can also monitor remotely his energy usage & production using Nedap’s fantastic on-line service.

Specification:

Panel:
SunPower SPR-E20-327 327W x 12

2,866 kWh

Annual CO2 Savings:
2,542 kg

We decided to install solar panels with battery storage so that any excess power generated during the day would be available to us during the hours of darkness. A further benefit was that in the event of a short-term power cut or power rationing, we would have a degree of autonomy because, unlike stand-alone solar panels, panels with battery storage do not have to shut down when the mains supply is cut off. We were also mindful of the inevitable increase in the cost of mains electricity, and wished to minimise that as much as possible.

Gareth McGuire coordinated our project from the initial inspection for viability, through the system design, scaffolding provision, obtaining of an Energy Performance Certificate to final commissioning. His workmanship was meticulous from start to finish, as was his attention to detail, and I cannot overstate the level of service we received throughout – a rare quality these days.

We have found that by running power-hungry appliances in the middle of the day, whereby the load during the hours of darkness is reduced, and giving the battery bank the chance to fully recharge, we can get through to the next day little or even no use of mains power.

We recommend Powerpac Ltd without any qualms!
